"celebrating online self-absorption since 1999"

Howard Dean has described the GOP as "pretty much a white, Christian party" and said many Republicans have "never made an honest living."

Howard's right on the money as far as I'm concerned. Like Rude Pundit said, "Calling out motherfuckers for fucking their mothers is as brutally truthful as politics gets." (6/9/2005)

"I've never been able to understand his appeal," replied Dick Cheney* in an interview on Fox 'news.' "Maybe his mother loved him, but I've never met anybody who does. He's never won anything, as best I can tell."

Asked by a reporter to reply to Cheney's criticisms, Dean said: "My view is that Fox 'news' is a propaganda outlet of the Republican Party and that I don't comment on Fox News."

*You know, that same Dick Cheney who shot an old guy in the face...

As BAGnewsNotes sez...
"Bush's expression in this home run photo by AP's Susan Walsh (as he flies over the devastated city of New Orleans) might turn out to be one of the more revealing portraits of the Bush presidency. Sadly, it is reminiscent of the "My Pet Goat" photo taken on the morning of 9/11. In this case, however, the "Oh my God" is replaced with a look of "What the hell do you expect me to do about it?" Clearly, its a rare glimpse of Bush without the mask, or the script, or the teleprompter, or the Rove or Cheney, or the transmitter -- and he knows it."

From In the Bullpen, one of many wingnut blogs who are OK with the idea of a cheap DC hack acting like a wiseguy - “The photographer that took the picture of Justice Antonin Scalia giving an “obscene gesture”...claims Scalia’s insistence it was not an obscene gesure is inaccurate...“The judge paused for a second, then looked directly into my lens and said, ‘To my critics, I say, Vaffanculo*,’ " punctuating the comment by flicking his right hand out from under his chin, Smith said.

* "Fuck yourself"

From The Washington Post - A brief argument between Vice President Cheney and a senior Democratic senator led Cheney to utter a big-time obscenity on the Senate floor this week.

On Tuesday, Cheney, serving in his role as president of the Senate, appeared in the chamber for a photo session. A chance meeting with Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (Vt.), the ranking Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, became an argument about Cheney's ties to Halliburton Co., an international energy services corporation, and President Bush's judicial nominees.

The exchange ended when Cheney offered some crass advice."Fuck yourself*," said the man who is a heartbeat from the presidency.

There is no rule against obscene language by a vice president on the Senate floor. The senators were present for a group picture and not in session, so Rule 19 of the Senate rules -- which prohibits vulgar statements "unbecoming a senator" -- does not apply, according to a Senate official. Even if the Senate were in session, the vice president, though constitutionally the president of the Senate, is an executive branch official and therefore free to use whatever language he likes.
